Facing your grief: Chinese medicine can help

At Michigan Acupuncture Studio we want to discuss a topic that almost everybody will experience at some

point in their life. It’s the conversation of facing your grief and how Chinese Medicine and acupuncture can help. Most of us know, there are five stages to grief,

  1. Denial

  2. Anger

  3. Bargaining

  4. Depression

  5. Acceptance

For many of us working through these stages, we often don’t realize exactly where we are in the process as we maintain our day-to-day activities..

In traditional Chinese medicine, and at Michigan Acupuncture Studio, we try to work with the stage our patient is in and focus on how emotional changes can be affected. We take into consideration several aspects. We consider the season, the pulse, the overall constitution of the patient, and any pre-existing conditions. It is important to consider these aspects to help prevent disharmony within our patients. At Michigan Acupuncture Studio, we believe the Spring season is the perfect time to begin dealing with and balancing emotions.

Spring is the season associated with the wood element. The wood element is in connection with the liver, which can present itself with anger or impatience when unbalanced. * (to read more about this topic click here to read our previous blog article).

When the wood (liver) element is out of whack, the metal element can play a huge role in the cause or the solution. The metal element can help to control the wood element. While the metal element is most closely related to the Lungs and Colon, it also has the ability to control wood in order for emotions to not become overpowering or overwhelming. For those who are well-balanced and in harmony, this transition of control is often unnoticed as it is second nature for our body. For those moving through the five stages of grief, it will likely require a bit more work to nurture our own nature.

If you find yourself working your way through the grieving process we here at Michigan Acupuncture Studio would love to help by offering guidance. See how one of our Traditional Medicine Practitioners can assist you in developing a proper treatment plan. These treatment plans consist of the use of herbal medicine, dietary advice, and exercise accompanied with acupuncture.

Weekly acupuncture can help throughout the healing process and also improve overall health. The grieving process can leave many of us extremely stressed. When we are stressed, our bodies go into self-preservation mode. At Michigan Acupuncture Studio we focus heavily on reducing our patient’s stress levels to help stabilize and bring balance to their emotions. When our bodies are in harmony with our minds we have the capacity to do great things. Let us help you find that harmony and come to peace with your loss.
