Stress affects almost everyone

Tiredness, fatigue, aches, tense muscles, headaches, insomnia, difficulty relaxing, constant worry, easily agitated, grinding teeth. If any of these words sound familiar to your current state of being, you may be suffering from chronic stress.

Everyone from students to the working population is and can be affected by stress. This psychological and physiological response to situations or events that make you feel disturbed or threatened interferes with your body’s equilibrium.

And while a little bit of stress is good for you (to keep you motivated, alert, and energetic) , too much or prolonged stress can lead to serious health problems, having a detrimental impact on your mood, relationships, and quality of life. While everyone exhibits symptoms differently, health problems related to long term chronic stress include:

  • Mental disorders, such as depressions and anxiety

  • High blood pressure

  • Abnormal heart rhythm

  • Sleeping disorders

  • Stomach ulcers

  • Menstrual disorders

  • Sexual dysfunction

From a TCM perspective, the flow of Qi and blood in the body becomes stagnant when exposed to long-term stress. Areas where this primarily occurs are along the heart meridian (resulting in high blood pressure and irritability), liver Qi (resulting in rigid muscles, feelings of depression, and headaches), spleen meridian (resulting in problems with the digestive system), and Kidney Qi (resulting in irregular periods).

At Michigan Acupuncture Studio, we can provide treatment methods to help cope and manage stress, including, acupuncture, tui na, or Chinese herbal powders. Each treatment is designed specifically for the individual.

If you’re suffering from stress, call us today and set up a consultation. We would love to help you find a solution to stress.
