AcuLuma Light Therapy: Enhancing Cosmetic Acupuncture with Targeted Light Frequencies
At Michigan Acupuncture Studio, we integrate modern advancements with the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). One of our most effective modern tools for skin rejuvenation and overall wellness is AcuLuma Light Therapy. This freestanding LED treatment system by AcuLift™ Skincare uses specific light wavelengths to stimulate cellular repair, enhance collagen production, and reduce inflammation—making it the perfect complement to cosmetic acupuncture.
How AcuLuma Light Therapy Works
Light therapy interacts directly with the skin and underlying cells, activating the mitochondria—the powerhouse of the cell—to produce more energy (ATP). This increase in cellular energy helps repair and regenerate tissue, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing. When used alongside acupuncture, AcuLuma Light Therapy enhances the body’s natural ability to rejuvenate and restore balance, both inside and out.
The Four Therapeutic Light Frequencies
Each wavelength of light serves a distinct purpose, targeting specific concerns and working synergistically with the body’s healing mechanisms.
- Red Light (640 nm) - Red light penetrates deeply into the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production, improve circulation, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It enhances oxygen delivery to cells, supporting tissue repair and accelerating wound healing. Red light is also known for its anti-inflammatory effects and can help reduce joint pain and stiffness in smaller areas, such as the hands.
- Infrared Light - Though invisible to the eye, infrared light works beneath the skin’s surface to stimulate blood flow and improve cellular function. It helps reduce inflammation, ease muscle pain, and support tissue recovery. This makes it an excellent addition to acupuncture treatments focused on injury recovery, arthritis, or overall wellness.
- Yellow Light (583 nm) - Yellow light promotes lymphatic flow and detoxification, aiding in the reduction of redness and pigmentation irregularities such as age spots and melasma. It supports even skin tone and a healthy glow while stimulating oxygen utilization within the cells—essential for maintaining youthful, radiant skin.
- Blue Light (423 nm) - Blue light targets acne-causing bacteria on the skin’s surface, helping to calm active breakouts and prevent new blemishes. It has strong antibacterial properties and assists in cell renewal, making it ideal for treating acne, eczema, and other inflammatory skin conditions.

A Holistic Approach to Radiant Skin
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, beauty is a reflection of internal harmony. Combining AcuLuma Light Therapy with cosmetic acupuncture allows our practitioners to treat both the root cause and the surface expression of skin concerns. Acupuncture restores energetic balance and supports organ systems, while light therapy enhances the body’s cellular performance. Together, these modalities promote long-term skin health, vitality, and natural radiance.
At Michigan Acupuncture Studio, our cosmetic acupuncture and light therapy treatments are performed by practitioners specially trained and certified by Michelle Gellis, L.Ac., a nationally recognized expert in facial rejuvenation and cosmetic acupuncture. Our approach ensures that every treatment is both safe and effective, blending the best of ancient wisdom and modern science.
